Strong Coulomb coupling influences ion and neutral temperatures in atmospheric pressure plasmas

چکیده
Abstract Molecular dynamics simulations are used to model ion and neutral temperature evolution in partially-ionized atmospheric pressure plasma at different ionization fractions. Results show that ion–ion interactions strongly coupled fractions as low 10 −5 the is influenced by effects associated with strong coupling. Specifically, disorder-induced heating found rapidly heat ions on a timescale of period (∼10 s ps) after an pulse. This followed collisional relaxation neutrals, which cools heats neutrals longer (∼ns) timescale. Slight then occurs over much (∼100 ns) due ion-neutral three-body recombination. An analytic developed agrees simulation results. A conclusion coupling important plasmas.

Coulomb crystallization in expanding laser-cooled neutral plasmas.
We present long-time simulations of expanding ultracold neutral plasmas, including a full treatment of the strongly coupled ion dynamics. Thereby, the relaxation of the expanding laser-cooled plasma is studied, taking into account elastic as well as inelastic collisions. It is demonstrated that, depending on the initial conditions, the ionic component of the plasma may exhibit short-range order...
متن کاملInfluence of electron-ion collisions on Coulomb crystallization of ultracold neutral plasmas
While ion heating by elastic electron-ion collisions may be neglected for a description of the evolution of freely expanding ultracold neutral plasmas, the situation is different in scenarios where the ions are laser-cooled during the system evolution. We show that electron-ion collisions in laser-cooled plasmas influence the ionic temperature, decreasing the degree of correlation obtainable in...
متن کاملIon structure factors and electron transport in dense Coulomb plasmas ∗
The dynamical structure factor of a Coulomb crystal of ions is calculated at arbitrary temperature below the melting point taking into account multi-phonon processes in the harmonic approximation. In a strongly coupled Coulomb ion liquid, the static structure factor is split into two parts, a Bragg-diffraction-like one, describing incipient long-range order structures, and an inelastic part cor...
متن کاملStrong-coupling effects in the relaxation dynamics of ultracold neutral plasmas
We describe a hybrid molecular dynamics approach for the description of ultracold neutral plasmas, based on an adiabatic treatment of the electron gas and a full molecular dynamics simulation of the ions, which allows us to follow the long-time evolution of the plasma including the effect of the strongly coupled ion motion. The plasma shows a rather complex relaxation behavior, connected with t...
متن کاملSpectroscopic characterization of rovibrational temperatures in atmospheric pressure He/CH4 plasmas
Atmospheric pressure of helium He and methane CH4 mixture discharge characteristics are investigated using emission spectroscopic methods. Plasmas are produced in a radio frequency capacitively coupled device at atmospheric pressure in the ambient air. Without the CH4 gas introduced in the plasma, the emission spectrum exhibits typical helium discharge characteristics showing helium atomic line...
